Looking to celebrate a special occasion? Life is full of opportunities to celebrate; birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, bah-mitzvas, Christmas, Easter – need I go on! But how do you make sure you celebrate a special occasion in a way that’s, well… special?
In many ways it depends on just how special your special occasion is. We have a birthday every year but not every birthday is a milestone. If your looking for a simple way to celebrate then an intimate gathering with family and friends will probably do the job; however, if your turning 21, 40, 50 or 70, it’s time to think bigger!
Engagement parties and special anniversaries deserve a little extra effort too. You’ll only get one chance to celebrate each, so grab the bull by the horns and get planning.
Do something you’ve never done before but have always wanted to do
How about sky-diving? Bungee jumping? A cage dive with sharks? Okay, it doesn’t have to be quite so extreme, the point is to think outside the box, try to come up with of an activity that you’ll always remember and just go for it. The Watercress line (Mid Hants railway) offers a fantastic Real Ale Train experience, various vintage railway lines offer interactive Murder Mystery Evenings which are unique and a lot of fun.
Then there’s the Theatre, there are plenty of great shows to choose from, but an interactive dining experience such as the ‘Fawlty Towers Dinner Show’ is fun, funny and unique; However, if it’s a really special occasion, you’ll want to think much bigger…
Have the party to end all parties!
Get all of your family, friends and loved ones together and have the party of a lifetime. Create your own, completely unique venue by having a bespoke designed marquee at home. Hire amazing caterers, have a themed bar and hire some great entertainers to really bring the evening to life.
Interactive entertainers such as stilt walkers, fire breathers, mind readers and close-up magicians get everyone involved and create an amazing atmosphere. Singing waiters are a fun surprise, very different and something that you and your guests will talk about for years afterwards.
Don’t spare the pennies when hiring a band. There are some incredible acts out there and a great band, one with personality and charisma, keeps the dancefloor filled all night long.
Take the trip of a lifetime
Perhaps you’ve always wanted to go on safari, see the Northern lights, go Whale-watching or take a boat trip through the beautiful Keralan backwaters in Southern India. Just do it! You only live once and travel is a great way to experience new cultures, expand the mind and push yourself out of your comfort zone.
Cruises aren’t for everyone, but they can be a great way to visit a multitude of dream destinations in a short space of time. How about hiring an RV and touring the West Coast of the USA? Backpacking, now bear with me here… It can be tough and gritty but a backpacking trip – even a short one – is a great way to meet new people and get closer to the ‘real’ culture in your destination country or countries.
Buy yourself a birthday present
Have you ever wanted an open top sports car? Flying lessons or ‘that’ dress? Perhaps now’s the time to just go for it! Okay, so this is a very personal way to celebrate a special occasion and perhaps not the most interactive or inclusive way to do it – but it’s your special occasion, so do it your way.
You could always have a party too – drive up to the marquee in your fancy new car and debut your new designer dress on your walk along the red carpet and into your venue!
