Winter weddings. a marquee with white lined walls and a black ceiling, decorated with hanging lights and filled with rows of tables and chairs, set out for a wedding breakfast

Winter weddings have grown in popularity in recent years. Whilst the summer may still be the most popular time of year for weddings, there are many benefits and great reasons for having a wedding in the winter months.

Winter weddings equal more choice

While the festive season may be a busy time in the events world, the rest of the autumn and winter months can be relatively quiet. Great news for anyone planning a wedding during the colder months. Summer weddings mean competition for the best entertainers, bar suppliers, photographers, marquee suppliers and caterers, for example; your first choice may not be available unless you’ve booked them far in advance of your big day.

Don’t be too complacent, the top suppliers will always be in demand, but competition certainly won’t be as high.

Winter weddingsNatures colour palette

Theming your winter wedding venue couldn’t be easier. Take inspiration from the natural colour palette on display at this time of year. Autumn months bring glorious reds, oranges and yellows often combined with clear and crisp blues skies.

The winter is fresh – bare frost filled trees reaching up toward clear, wide open skies. At this time of year your guests will look forward to being inside. Create an intimate, cosy and inviting space with warming colours, soft lighting and seasonal floral displays.

The lighting is perfect

Winter weddingsThe best parties happen after dark! With the sun setting early during the winter months, winter weddings deliver the perfect environment for the evening’s festivities. Think candles on tables and twinkling fairy lights to create a magical, memorable setting. The subtle winter lighting will fade during the wedding breakfast with the sun setting during the speeches.

Venue lighting is key; get it right and you’ll create a wonderful space in which your guests can party the night away. During the summer the sun can be bright in the sky as late as 10pm; some guests may want to be outside – lovely, but not necessarily ideal for creating a party atmosphere.

Marquees are great venues for winter weddings

This may come as a surprise, but marquees work incredibly well during colder months. Pick a beautiful setting for your marquee and make the most of the setting. Window walls can offer views of the surrounding scenery.  Clear roof panels allow you to make the most of the winter light and look beautiful once the roof space is lit after dark.

Super-efficient heating systems, boarded floors and cosy carpets create a wonderfully cosy space. A marquee is also a unique venue; work with your marquee supplier to create a bespoke space that’s personal to you. You’ll be able to theme the marquee to your taste, choose lighting schemes that compliment the time of year; ultimately creating a venue that is truly unique to you.
