Marquee Flooring Options For Every Event and Landscape
Choosing the right flooring for your marquee can make all the difference to the comfort and appearance of your event space. There are several flooring types to consider, each with its own benefits and ideal applications. Your choice may depend on practical factors, such as the ground conditions or the season, or simply personal preference and style. Here’s a comprehensive guide to help you make an informed decision.
Carpeted Flooring
Carpeted flooring is an elegant and practical option, adding a touch of sophistication to any marquee setup. Lifestyle Marquees always supplies and fits brand new exhibition-quality carpet for every event requiring boarded or raised boarded flooring. A range of standard carpet colours is available, but alternative colours and styles can also be provided to suit your event’s theme.
For added protection, we can provide carpets with a protective plastic film on top, ideal for the setup stage when foot traffic is high. This film shields the carpet from dirt and damage during setup and can be removed once the marquee is ready for the event. The removal of the protective covering is the responsibility of the client, but event professionals such as caterers and planners are usually familiar with this process and happy to assist.

Coconut Matting
Coconut matting is a popular, cost-effective choice, offering a rustic and natural aesthetic. Lifestyle Marquees uses high-quality, tightly woven matting that not only looks great but also prevents high heels from sinking through to the ground.
This type of flooring works well on soft surfaces like lawns and is ideal when the ground is flat and even. We always place a protective plastic underlay on the ground to ensure stability and stretch the matting taut before securing it with six-inch nails.
However, if the ground is prone to flooding, excessively soft, or clay-based, coconut matting may not be the best option. In such cases, we recommend considering boarded flooring for improved stability and moisture resistance.
Boarded Flooring
Boarded flooring is made from interlocking wooden floorboards, similar to laminate flooring. It is a more robust and solid option compared to coconut matting, especially suitable for hard surfaces like patios or tarmac, or for use in areas where the ground might be damp or uneven.
The flooring follows the natural gradient of the ground beneath, evening out minor bumps and ensuring a comfortable walking surface. Boarded flooring can also be combined with carpet for a polished finish. It’s important to note that boarded, carpeted flooring is significantly more expensive than coconut matting, so it’s essential to weigh the benefits before making your choice.

Raised Boarded Flooring
Raised boarded flooring is the premium choice for uneven or waterlogged ground. It consists of a steel subframe topped with wooden floorboards, creating a perfectly level and elevated surface. This option is particularly useful when building a marquee on sloped terrain or over unusual areas like swimming pools or ponds.
While raised boarded flooring offers excellent stability and aesthetic appeal, it requires more time, labour, and logistics to install, making it a more costly option. Additional equipment and materials may need to be delivered to the site, and the build and dismantling process can take longer than standard flooring installations. Nonetheless, the result is a stunning, level surface ideal for high-end events or challenging locations.
Despite the picture, which is for illustrative purposes only, raised flooring is normally within a marquee, and covered by the clients choice of carpeting.
